Pupils Learn About Exciting Career Opportunities
During the spring, different year groups were provided with opportunities to think about their next steps after completing secondary school, this included activities to build professional skills in early year groups, as well as external visits to colleges and meetings with organisations.
Year 8 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Hugh Baird College, where they were given the opportunity to attend the STEAM Expo. This event allowed them to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. They met with employers, further and higher education providers to discuss the options open to them after their Year 11 exams and into the future.
They also learned about how they can start to build the skills required by employers now in their workshops with the Talent Foundry. It has been impressive to listen to them talk about the importance of teamwork and other transferable skills after pitching Enterprise ideas to an audience.
Hugh Baird College also hosted some of our Year 10 pupils, who were able to find out more about college life and future careers in hospitality and catering, before making sticky toffee pudding in the kitchens. Pupils were rewarded with a fine dining experience in the L20 Restaurant. This was a fantastic opportunity not only to build pupil's awareness of their options after GCSEs, but also to practice life skills through a brand new experience of fine dining together.
Year 7's M&G Enterprise challenge provided a fantastic end to the half term, in which pupils put their problem-solving skills to the test and tackled real-world problems with creativity and ingenuity. Whether our pupils dream of launching their own next big tech start-up or dream of crafting handmade masterpieces, we want to help prepare them, and these activities were perfectly designed for just that.
They worked alongside their peers to brainstorm business ideas, develop strategies, and bring their visions to life. These sessions have been filled with fun, learning, and hands-on activities designed to ignite their entrepreneurial mindset!
